As I reported recently, Florida is experiencing a severe drought,
marking its most significant water shortage since 2012. Driven by
massive rainfall deficits and collapsed groundwater levels, regional
authorities have enacted strict water restrictions. We're now in the rainy season and are getting showers more often. This has helped but has not solved the problem. We need frequent short showers to build up groundwater levels. A heavy rain doesn't really help as the sandy soil cannot retain the moisture.

Today I'm sharing summer skies here at the condo with increased darker clouds. Many afternoons moisture builds up over the Gulf and moves across Florida with showers. Sometimes there is thunder and lightening. I sit and listen as it moves in and out. I don't really go outside to capture storms.
I hope you're enjoying summer wherever you are!

...rain is such a necessary thing. Not too much and not too little.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you continue to get rain -- all you need. We've had our share in the north. I wish we could all hit a happy medium.
ReplyDeleteLovely sky shots! We've had Florida-like heat and humidity here in Toronto, Canada, but also lots of rain. Hope you get enough to end your drought!
ReplyDeleteGreat stormy sky shots ~ hope you get the water you need ~ Hugs ^_^
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the whole country is in a drought. We were in New Mexico and Colorado last week and they are even drier than normal.
ReplyDeleteI am not afraid of storms but I don't mess around when there is lightning around. I knew somebody that got hit by lightning and died when I was a little kid.
Great skies.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skies. Drought here as well. Much of our water comes from the Colorado River, which is much lower than normal.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so hot and humid here. Reminds me of Florida (I lived in Tampa for two years back in the 1970's), and the 4:30 daily thunderstorms.. I hope your drought breaks soon.
ReplyDeleteHot, hot, hot! It's been so hot.
ReplyDeleteRain is very important.

I enjoyed your photos. I'm glad to hear the drought situation is improving and I hope it continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteThat is interesting to read about summer in Florida. Our water company announced today that there are water restrictions from tomorrow with a hosepipe ban. Eek! I have been watching the World Cup and have been hearing about the storms. England play in Miami tomorrow night and they are already saying it might be delayed because of storm warnings and extreme heat!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!
Good to see Florida's drought conditions are improving. We have a few large wildfires in Colorado from our long drought conditions since winter. I hope we can get some good rainfall soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're finally getting some rain, Carol. I hope the drought continues to improve. Have a lovely summer. x
ReplyDeleteLooks like rain is coming! Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're finally getting some much-needed showers, even if there's still a long way to go. Your summer skies are beautiful - thank you for sharing them, and I hope the rain continues to help!
ReplyDeleteI hope you continue to get lots of shorter showers to replenish the groundwater shortages!
