The weather here in central Florida has been hot and dry. We've had little rain for months. Over half of Florida is experiencing "extreme drought". Like Georgia, Florida is dealing with widespread wildfires around the state. Scientists warn the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season could be the most dangerous in history.
There is a prediction of rain this weekend on today's weather report. I say "from your mouth to God's ear, please". That's enough bad news. You know I'm an optimist, so let's look at my blue views and my potted red/white amaryllis blooms here at the condo.
Note: Amaryllis thrive in Florida, blooming in spring (typically April) with minimal care. Plant bulbs in well-drained soil with the top third above ground in partial to full sun. They are, for the most part, easy to care for, notes South Florida Plant Guide. Protect them from frost, water sparingly to avoid rot, and fertilize in summer to ensure reblooming

ReplyDeleteIt is the same here, Carol, as all of Colorado is experiencing an extreme drought. We were supposed to get some rain this week, but all we had were lots of clouds. I'm hoping the weather pattern changes for the better soon. Your amaryllis is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to get rain tomorrow night, but it's not predicted to end the drought. Prediction for the Gulf is bad hurricane season which starts this month. It's either feast or famine in Florida.

Your red and white amaryllis is just gorgeous! Mine are also blooming at the moment, for the third year in a row. I received them as gifts with the bulb wrapped in wax, and planted them in pots after the first year. I love watching them grow.
ReplyDeleteYour amaryllis plant is gorgeous. It seems that in South Florida we have had a lot of rain lately especially the last two days. Hopefully, it will be across the state and the fires will not be a threat.
ReplyDeleteWe have been low on rain in East Texas as well, then we had 2 days non-stop. Not flooding yet, but we are due rain again soon. I am trying to decide which is worse, too much or not enough. Around here we go from fine to flooding in about 4 hours. I have never seen an amaryllis like that one, usually the solid red type sold at Christmas. Take care, visiting from #MMBC
